Technician - Process Development

Wage: £16,000 – £20,000
Hours: Full-time

 

Role Overview:

The Technician – Process Development will carry out a range of activities to support the Process Development group at Oxford Genetics. The group incorporates Upstream (small scale bioreactors systems), Downstream (harvest/purification) and Analytical for both viral and protein therapeutics, with a particular focus on Lentivirus, AAV and monoclonal antibodies.

The Technician will provide support for activities including stocking of laboratories, cleaning, sanitisation and sterilisation of laboratory equipment, preparation of buffers and reagents, and carrying out routine experimental procedures (see relevant laboratory techniques below) as directed by Scientist colleagues.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the successful expansion of this function at Oxford Genetics, and significant training and support in multiple areas of biological production and characterisation will be provided.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Scientist colleagues to define objectives, and key support required for lab functions
  • Provide data summaries and reporting, as required
  • To adhere strictly to established quality standards, essential for on-going activities
  • Provide accurate record keeping at all times

Criteria:

  • BSc or MSc in relevant scientific discipline (biology, chemistry), with relevant laboratory experience (higher education qualifications with laboratory experience also considered)
  • Experience working in a commercial/industry environment is preferred but not essential

Desirable:

  • Ability to work in a laboratory independently and as part of a team on multiple projects, following established protocols, SOPs and safety procedures.
  • Theoretical understanding or (preferably) practical experience of some or all techniques used in biopharmaceutical production would be advantageous (mammalian cell culture and transfection, bioreactors preparation, sample collection and testing, filtration, chromatography, PCR, FACS, ELISA SDS-PAGE)
  • Writing clear, professional and accurate reports in a timely fashion
  • Good time management, communication, teamwork and numeracy skills
  • Analytical and logical mindset as well as enthusiastic approach to science and medicine
  • Experience in the accurate and documented preparation of laboratory reagents
  • Experience in sample logging and tracking
  • Experience in production and characterisation of proteins or viral vectors
  • Basic proficiency in MS office package. Intermediate or advanced proficiency advantageous.
